The environmental challenges facing aquaculture include land salinization, which hinders agricultural yields land subsidence from overuse of groundwater frequent outbreaks of shrimp and fish diseases under intensified farming methods misuse of prohibited antibiotics destruction of mangroves and dependence on wild fish catch for feed, which depletes marine resources.Įfforts have been taken to mitigate the negative impact on the environment. Viet Nam is now one of the world’s largest shrimp producers. After collaborative efforts of producers, traders, and government agencies, the rejection rates for shrimp exports from Viet Nam have declined. Initially, shrimp exports from the country were met with high rejection rates in importing countries, with high antibiotic residue in the product often cited as the main reason. In 2000, Viet Nam allowed the conversion of rice fields to fishponds. Private actors, notably conglomerates in Japan and Thailand, played important roles in the growth of shrimp aquaculture in Asian countries, such as Viet Nam, strengthening the supply side and expanding global demand as a result. Shrimp farming became widespread after technological innovation intensified the industry in the 1980s. The employment generated in aquaculture is substantial and rising, providing more work for women than the male-dominated wild capture fisheries. The increase of fish production from inland aquaculture has reduced fish prices in domestic markets, benefiting poor consumers in Asia. Asia dominates global aquaculture production, but the aquaculture industry is facing environmental sustainability concerns.įreshwater fish and shrimp are two major forms of aquaculture in Asia. Since then, aquaculture has been supplying the human consumption of more than 100 million tons of seafood. The main impetus for the industry’s surge is the stagnant wild fish catch, which has leveled off at a little above 80 million tons since the 1980s.

I will say that the game is damn pretty, and the fish animations are gorgeous, but it's not worth paying the current price for a glitchy game, with minimal gameplay, that makes you want to put your fish through the nearest wall.Įdit: Came back to it cos I guess I'm a glutton for punishment.Aquaculture has grown rapidly in Asia in the past three decades. The most rage-quit inducing experience that prompted me to write this review is when out of absolutely nowhere, so much larger fish comes along and kills you immediately and you just have to start completely from scratch.

Basically, see fish, swim to fish, left click to right, right click to eat, repeat. This process takes a long time to get to any decent size and it's also very boring.

You basically select a fish, then swim around eating things and fish, getting XP and leveling up in size and damage. It's basically a grind-simulator, and I've never played a game where the frustration-to-pleasure ratio is more off balance than this one.
